Senior Care Referral Agency FAQ'sQuestion: What is a Senior Care Referral Agency? Answers: A senior care referral agency is normally a free referral service that helps families or caregivers find nursing homes (skilled nursing facility), assisted living (also known as residential care home and board and care), and other types of senior care options for their loved ones age 60+.
Question: How do Senior Care Referral Agency's work? Answer: Most senior care referral agencies will start off by asking a series of questions regarding your loved one such as: expected move-in date, type of facility, room preference (single or shared. private bath), budget, facility location, age, health condition, if Alzheimer's/Dementia, ambulatory condition, etc. From this information the agency will provide a personalized list of facilities including Residential Care Facility Homes from their network that closely meet the needs of your loved one. The list of facilities provided are partners in network and all or some are pre-screened. Question: How much does it cost? Answer: Senior Care Referral Agency's normally provide the referral service free of charge to seniors and their family members and are reimbursed by the participating partners.
Question: Are Senior Care Referral Agency's licensed? Answer: Yes and No. If a Senior Care Referral Agency works with medically based facilities such as Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) and convalescent hospitals, then yes. If the senior care referral agency solely works with assisted living communities or Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE), then NO. There is no licensing available if a referral agency only works with RCFE's. Residential Care Facilities, however are required to be licensed by the state of California.
Question: Do senior care referral agencies refer the best facilities available? Answer: Although senior care referral agencies do their best to provide the best possible fit for your loved one, there is no guarantee that the facility they recommend is the best. Always be sure to compare several facilities they recommend along with a few more not on their list.
